Frequently Asked Questions
What furnace filter size do I need?
It’s easy! If there is a current filter in place, look for the size printed on the sides of the filter. If you don't currently have a filter, just measure the length and width of each return vent.
Why do I need to change my furnace filter?
There are so many reasons to keep your home furnace filters fresh. Clean furnace filters improve the quality of the air you breathe because they eliminate unwanted airborne particles—which means fewer germs and, as a result, healthier people. Maintaining clean furnace filters also prevents damage to your HVAC equipment, so there are fewer repair bills and your system lasts longer. Regular filter changes even reduce your overall energy bill. (Your HVAC system accounts for about half your bill, and keeping clean filters can reduce that bill up to 15%)
How often do I need to replace my furnace filter?
Furnace filters are ideally changed every 3 to 6 months. If your home has pets, children, or people with allergies, you may need to replace them more often.
What quality of filter is recommended?
Our most popular filter is our Plus - MERV 11 Series 1100 Pleated Furnace Filter. This is a great filter for a house with pets and people with mild allergies. Our Premium - MERV 13 Green Pleat is recommended for people with multiple pets, high allergies, polluted area and much more. View our Furnace Filters page to learn more.
What does MERV mean?
MERV, otherwise known as Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, is a system used to evaluate the efficiency of an furnace filter based on how effective it is at catching particles of varying sizes. Basically, the higher the MERV rating, the higher the air filtration capabilities of a particular filter.
